China's legendary shipping factory will build a pavilion on the Huangpu River to provide an insight into future waterside life at the Shanghai Expo.

The China State Shipbuilding Corporation, the owner of the more than 140-year-old Jiangnan Shipyard, signed a contract with the Expo organizer on March 31 to build a corporate pavilion for Expo and unveiled its pavilion design.

The 5,000-square-meter pavilion will be renovated from a welding workshop in the shipyard.

Although it does not look like a ship, the pavilion will be supported by a steel keel.

The corporation will also showcase the development of the country's shipping industry and exhibit models of future ships.

The corporation has a great deal of experience in building various kinds of warships and auxiliary vessels as well as related equipment for the Chinese navy. The original shipyard has been relocated to Changxing Island.

It is the 13th corporate pavilion confirmed for Expo. Expo will have 16 corporate pavilions.
