Ningbo starts construction on UBPA pavilion

Construction started Monday morning on Ningbo's pavilion for the Urban Best Practices Area of the 2010 World Expo, which will showcase the countryside's urbanization and a livable home.

The display presented by Ningbo from the eastern Zhejiang Province will replicate "Tengtou Village," one of the Global Ecological 500 and World Top 10 Harmonious Villages, in displaying an ecological environment and modern agricultural technologies.

The two-story building will feature Jiangnan architectural styles.

Zhou Hanmin, deputy director of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai Executive Committee, and Fan Yi, vice chairman of CPPCC Ningbo Committee, attended the ground-breaking ceremony.

Zhou said Ningbo's UBPA exhibition fits the theme of Expo 2010 "Better City, Better Life."

Fan said the pavilion will give full display to Tengtou's practice of maintaining a harmony between people and nature, and its measures for environmental protection.
