The Dengshahe Port Industrial Zone will focus on the development of steel industries after it was included in the Liaoning coastal economic belt in May this year.

Established in 2005, the zone will benefit from renewed development thanks to recent approval of the Liaoning coastal economic belt development strategy by the central government, local officials said.

The planned 50-sq-km facility's first phase covers 19.2 sq km and will be home to enterprises making quality steel, auto parts and equipment.

The second phase will focus on the port industry and logistics.

The zone, 68 km from urban Dalian and 62 km from Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport, is expected to have annual industrial output of about 40 billion yuan and generate 4 billion yuan in tax revenues after construction is completed.

The Binghai highway, Dandong expressway, No 201 National Highway and Jincheng railway also run through the port zone. Its 13-km coastline has abundant resources along with mudflats covering 1,333 hectares and 4,666 hectares suitable for aquiculture.

More than 20 vocational institutes providing trained personnel are located in Jinzhou district, home to the zone.

Jinzhou's district government has adopted a number of preferential policies to support the port zone's development.

New large public utilities include a 279 million yuan, 150,000-ton daily capacity water plant built by the Dalian Tap Water Co and a 220-kv substation.

A 350-million-yuan railway project is planned to become operational this month.

About 2.6 billion yuan has been invested in infrastructure development in the zone, paving the way for enterprises to have better access to basic facilities.

The favorable investment environment and location have helped the zone better attract domestic and foreign investors.

The first production line of the 8.2-billion-yuan Northeast Special Rolling Steel (Dalian) Plant will be put into operation this month.

France's Air Liquide has completed construction of a $29.5 million project in the zone, while building is underway on a 1.42 billion yuan Dalian Xianzheng Pipe facility and a 950 million yuan steel project.
