JINAN: A traffic accident killed 16 and injured 11 in east China's Shandong Province on Tuesday, a provincial government official said on Wednesday.

The accident happened at 5 pm on Tuesday when a long-distance bus and a truck collided in Jining city, leaving five dead and 22 injured, the official said.

As of Wednesday noon, 11 of the 22 injured died in hospital and among the other 11 injured, four were in danger of dying, five were seriously injured and two were slightly injured, the official said.

The provincial government is investigating the cause of the accident.
