FUZHOU: Twenty-eight abducted baby boys have been rescued in southeast China's Fujian Province after a nine month-long police investigation, local police said Saturday.

Eleven suspects were arrested, said a statement from the Public Security Department of the Quanzhou City.

According to the statement, police of Anxi County under Quanzhou found three vehicles on the road side with their license plates covered on February 22. After investigation, one man detained confessed that he had been involved in the trafficking of 19 baby boys abducted from other parts of China including Sichuan, Guangxi and Yunnan and sold them in Anxi since 2007.

Further investigations led to the capture of 10 suspects and rescue of 28 babies. Two children had died of illness previously.

Police have confirmed that the gang had abducted a total of 30 babies since the end of 2007.

The case is under investigation of the local procuratorate.
