Xi'an welcomes dignitaries to Euro-Asia Economic Forum

Nine hundred and thirty guests from over 60 countries will gather in Xi'an to participate in the 2009 Euro-Asia Forum from November 16 to 17.

Under the theme "Cooperation Towards Economic Recovery", the forum aims to promote mutual trust among Euro-Asia nations and to strengthen their cooperation in dealing with the challenges brought by the global economic recession, said Zhang Deguang, secretary-general of the forum, in his speech at a press conference held on November 15.

The Euro-Asia Economic Forum this year consists of four parallel branches focusing on finance, customs and business cooperation, energy, and education separately, Zhang said.

"These parallel branches will cover almost all the topics of common concern in the Eurasian region, which helps the participants to have in-depth communication and seek cooperation in more fields," Zhang explained.

Also included in the forum is an introduction meeting titled "New opportunities of Investment in Xi'an" which will bring more than 50 project proposals for investment to the city - a new high for the Euro-Asia Forum, according to Zhang.

The construction of international ports and the 2011 World Horticultural Exposition Garden (Xi'an), as well as the comprehensive development of the Xi'an Textile Village, will also be focused on at the forum in the next two days.
