TAIPEI: A delegation from the Chinese mainland arrived here Monday afternoon, kicking off their 6-day tour of exchange and cooperation.

The group from Jiangsu Province was headed by Liang Baohua, secretary of Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Invited by the Kuomintang (KMT) Central Committee, Liang was the first chief of a CPC provincial committee to visit Taiwan.

"Jiangsu is among the regions on the mainland that have closest exchanges and cooperation with Taiwan. Our visit is to implement the common prospects for peaceful cross-Straits development with pragmatic measures," Liang said at Taipei's Taoyuan Airport.

The CPC and KMT reached an agreement on the common prospects for peaceful cross-Straits development in 2005.

Liang was welcomed at the airport by KMT Deputy Secretary Chang Jung-Kong.

With the platform of "Jiangsu-Taiwan Week", the visit would actively promote mutual exchanges and cooperation in an all-direction, wide-range and multi-level way, Liang said.
