China has 1,283 public TV channels

NANNING: China has opened 1,283 public television channels, with broadcasting hours topping 2.57 million annually, a senior Chinese official said here Saturday.

China's public TV programs are available to 96.58 percent of Chinese population, Wang Taihua, Minister of State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, said at a forum of the 6th China-ASEAN Expo held in Nanning, capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

China's public TV programs, mainly on information, education and entertainment, are opened by central, province-level and prefecture-level radio and TV authorities and financed by government budgets.

The China-ASEAN Expo was held from October 20 to 24 to embrace free trade between China and 10 member states of Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
