Five people were sentenced to three to 15 years in jail for selling 3.9 million yuan in counterfeit bills Wednesday by the Beijing No.2 Intermediate Court, the Beijing Times reported Wednesday.

The group of five, led by a man named Yu Fangyou, had bought 100 yuan fake notes at 3.3 yuan per piece and sold them at around 6 yuan each, beginning in late 2007. Yu was caught by the police on June 2, 2008 and the other four were arrested shortly thereafter.

However, the producer of the notes has not been identified, since the five men were only retailers and had no contact with him or her.
