New Delhi,Beijing reach climate agreement

NEW DELHI: India and China yesterday signed a broad agreement to work together in fighting climate change and the nations underlined their shared position on contentious talks seeking a new global climate deal.

The sweeping agreement covers cooperation to reduce planet-warming greenhouse gases, transfer of technology and talks about ways to increase energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy.

The agreement came weeks before December's major climate meeting in Copenhagen, which the United Nations hopes will yield a deal to slow the pace of climate change.

The deal was among several India is working on with both rich and developing nations as proof of its commitment to a new climate agreement that will expand or replace the existing Kyoto Protocol.
