Shanghai to build international trade center

Shanghai has presented a plan to build an international trade center to the local government and will soon present it to the State Council, China's cabinet, the China Economic Weekly reported today, citing a source with Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce.

The center involves four districts, including Minhang ,Changning,Qingpu and Jiading in Shanghai and is designed to help promote trade to and from the city.

The value of the city's exported and imported goods is currently about one third of the national amount said Yu Hongsheng, an official with the National Development and Reform Commission, China's top economic planner.

Shanghai has been approved by the State Council to build an international finance center and an international shipping center.
