11th Shanghai Int'l Arts Festival opens

SHANGHAI: The 11th China Shanghai International Arts Festival (CSIAF) opened Sunday evening as world-class artists convened in the host city of east China's Shanghai.

The 11th CSIAF, with a theme of "Arts to light up the heart", attracted 107 arts groups from 23 countries and regions around the world. A total of 55 performances, including classical ballet, dance, music, opera and drama, are expected to be staged during the month-long gala.

World-famous virtuosos, including cellist Yo-Yo Ma, pianist Maksim Mrvica, violinists Edvin Marton and Midori and guitar masters Tommy Emmanuel and Pepe Romero, will perform during the festival.

The festival will also feature art exhibitions, forums and mass cultural activities.
