Foreign companies are not allowed to invest in the Chinese online gaming sector, said Kou Xiaowei, an official from the General Administration of Press and Publication of China (GAPP), Chinanews.com.cn reported yesterday.

Some foreign companies have illegally entered the Chinese market in recent years, causing serious market disorders, Kou said.

Kou said, to cope with the problem, GAPP and the State Copyright Bureau have jointly issued a notice calling for better online gaming market management.

The notice emphasizes that foreign companies, in line with the Chinese law, are banned on investing in domestic online gaming businesses in any forms including sole foreign investment, joint ventures, co-operation or technical support.
