The Chongqing MDI project, with an annual capacity of 400,000 tons, will be located in the Three Gorges reservoir area, the report said.

BASF said the Chongqing project was postponed as a result of the financial crisis. Construction of the project will complete in 2013 and operation is scheduled to start in 2014, according to the report.

As the production of MDI has potential environmental hazards, the company said it will take all possible measures to ensure production safety.
