The Beijing Urban Amenities Management Committee said yesterday that all night light devices will be turned on for 11 straight days from Sept 27 to Oct 7, Xinhuanet reported.

Twenty-one new energy-saving night lighting devices have been set up to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China. On the night of Oct 1, the devices will be used from 17:30 to 02:00 the next morning.

Beijing’s night lighting system has 2,000 lighting devices, covering over 150 buildings in the Tiananmen Square area and Changan Avenue , and 30 overpasses on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th ring roads, according to committee official Jia Jianping.

He said despite the increasing number of night lighting devices, electricity consumption will be saved by more than 50% due to the higher efficiency of the energy-saving lamps.
