China's 7th UN peacekeeping squad leaves for Haiti

BEIJING: China's seventh peacekeeping squad, a 17-strong team, left Beijing Thursday to take part in the United Nations mission in Haiti.

The team has been selected from police forces in eight provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities including Beijing, Tianjin, Gansu and Guangxi, the Ministry of Public Security said Friday.

China has so far sent 1,571 police on UN peacekeeping missions to East Timor, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Liberia, Afghanistan, Haiti and Sudan.
