An official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) says China has established a basic standard framework for wireless sensor networks, according to the website of the Xinhua News Agency.

Speaking at a recent meeting, he said The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has already adopted several standard proposals submitted by China.

China National Information Technology Standardization Technical Committee established a new group on September 11, which focuses on setting the standard for wireless sensor networks in China.

The wireless sensor network, also known as "the internet of things", is a wireless network connecting individual devices through sensors. The technology has wide uses within the fields of transportation, environment protection, public security, monitoring etc. It is expected to be as revolutionary to the information industry as the emergence of the Internet.

China has attached great importance to the research and development of the wireless sensor network. Experts have predicted that if it succeeds, the new technology will generate a new market worth several trillion yuan.
