Eighteen people died when chemicals exploded while being unloaded from a truck in Linyi, Shandong province, the Xinhua news agency said on Wednesday.

Xinhua did not say what kind of chemicals had caused the explosion, which it said injured 10 other people.

Some Chinese municipalities have begun to impose regulations on the transport of dangerous chemicals, to reduce the danger to residential neighbourhoods as chemicals are transported to and from factories.
