TAIPEI: Morakot, the worst typhoon to hit Taiwan in 50 years has claimed at least 291 lives and left 387 missing and 45 injured, said Taiwan's disaster control center Monday.

Kaohsiung County, the worst victim of the August 8 typhoon, has reported 224 deaths, 338 missing and 13 injured. Tainan reported 28 deaths and one injured. Pingdong reported 22 deaths and 24 missing.

Xiaolin Village of Kaohsiung County alone reported 129 people killed and 311 missing.
