Hosted by China Lawyers Association and the Chengdu government, the forum drew 1,300 lawyer representatives nationwide.

With "Mission, Responsibility, Development" as its theme, this year's forum focused on strategies of facing the economic crisis, coordination between urban and rural areas and the positive role lawyers should play in the present situation.

The year 2009 is the 30th anniversary of the restoration of China's lawyer system since 1979. The total number of lawyers and law offices across the country has reached more than 150,000 and 15,000 respectively, an increase of 700 and 190 times over 1979.

Association chief Yu Ning said that Chinese lawyers had stuck to the "Basing on facts and guided by law" principle, protected people's legal rights and promoted the fairness and justice of the Chinese judicial system.

China's Lawyer Forum, initiated in 2000, has become a significant and high-leveled forum during which lawyers all over China would exchange their opinions on hot issues and give suggestions to the judicial department.
