Couples battle it out for lucky wedding date

The website of Guangzhou's marriage registration office stalled recently when a flood of residents rushed to make appointments to tie the knot on Sept 9.

The Chinese consider Sept 9, 2009, as the luckiest day for couples to tie the knot because the triumvirate of "nine" symbolizes everlasting love.

No quota of registrations will be set on Sept 9, officials said.
