BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Brunei: A Chinese warship has arrived in Brunei to join vessels from other countries for an international exhibition.

Missile destroyer Guangzhou has anchored itself at the Muara Port in Brunei, Li Qiang, an official from the Chinese embassy to Brunei, told China Daily on Tuesday.

The ship, with a tonnage of 7,500 tons, will join vessels from around the world that have gathered in the Southeast Asian nation as part of the Brunei International Defense Exhibition.

The four-day exhibition, which will open tomorrow, is expected to bring together 300 exhibitors from around 40 countries. Warships from the United States, Japan and India have already held a series of activities with local people and navy force.

People will be allowed to board Guangzhou for a visit during its stay in Brunei, China News Agency reported last week.

It’s unknown how many days the ship will stay in the country. It will leave for Indonesia for an international fleet review to celebrate the country’s 64th anniversary of independence on Aug 17. The ship, named after a major southern Chinese city, joined the Chinese navy in 2004.
