Two senior officials in Chifeng city, Inner Mongolia autonomous region were removed from their posts after thousands of the citys citizens were sicken by tainted tap water beginning on July 25, Xinhua.net reported Wednesday.

A heavy rainstorm in July 23 apparently contaminated the well which supplies tap water. 4,322 people in 18 communities got sick with vomiting, fever, and diarrhea as a result.

Guo Mingda, director of Chifeng municipal construction commission, and Yu Xiufeng, its vice director, were sacked for being responsible for the incident. The decision was announced yesterday.
