RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazilian Science and Technology Minister Sergio Rezende said Thursday his country expects a successful negotiation with China on technology and information cooperation.

In a statement issued after his meeting with officials of Potevio, a Chinese telecommunications and electronics company, on Wednesday, Rezende said there are many opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in those areas.

He said Brazil and China can extend their successful cooperation in space development to other areas. The two countries had jointly developed and launched a remote-sensing satellite.

"In the area of communication and information technology, Brazil has a large market and it has many laws, like the Informatics Law, which boost  production in the country for the local market and for exports," Rezende said.

"That has made companies from many countries consider Brazil a destination for investment in that area. And they have made Brazil a base for export to other Latin American countries and to other continents," Rezende added.

The statement also quoted Potevio Vice President Wang Zhongfu that Brazil offers opportunities in many areas for Chinese firms, which will benefit both countries.
