A man in Chongqing was sentenced to four years in prison on Friday after he extorted money from a woman who wanted to leave him.

The man surnamed He, 39, was unemployed when he met the woman who lived with her daughter. He got to know the woman and the two lived together for 20 days after she realized he was not good for her.

He demanded 15,000 yuan ($2,196) in compensation from the woman and threatened to kill her and her family if she didn't pay.

The woman paid and then reported it to police. The man fled but was later captured.
