Failing to kill self, man gets prison sentence

A 29-year-old man may be wondering whether he's lucky or unlucky to be alive.

After his girlfriend jilted him in March, the man tried and failed to kill himself with gas. Instead, he was sentenced to three years in prison with three years reprieve, for jeopardizing public safety.

Lu opened the gas cylinder in his apartment located in the Xuanwu district of Beijing.

All building tenants were evacuated from the building after police learned about the gas.

Lu was taken to court two days after he woke up from a coma in the hospital.
