The Chinese mainland reported its first suspected case of A(H1N1) Sunday and health authorities quarantined seven people who flew in from North America, raising fears of a possible outbreak.

A 30-year-old man surnamed Bao has tested positive for the A(H1N1) virus in Sichuan province and the Ministry of Health has confirmed the case today.

Bao returned Saturday afternoon to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, from the US, where he had been studying at a university. He left Thursday from St. Louis, Missouri, to Tokyo via San Paolo, then aboard flight NW029 from Tokyo, arriving at Beijing Capital International Airport early Saturday.

The World Health Organization’s confirmed cases has topped 4,379 as of yesterday afternoon, with the death toll at 49, including two in the US, one in Canada and one in Costa Rica.
