Vendor's buried cash savings shredded by rats

A man in Shijiazhuang, Hebei province, is trying to recover his money - piece by piece - after his bills were chewed up by rats.

The street vendor, unable to open a bank account without an ID card, wrapped his savings of 5,000 yuan with a plastic bag, and buried it underground below his rented room.

He tried to piece them together with help from a bank. He was told he needed a letter from community officials explaining the rodents were responsible for the damage.
