7 killed, 19 missing in SW China landsildes

KUNMING - Two landslides killed seven people, injured two and left 19 missing on Sunday, in southwest China's Yunnan Province, according to local authorities.

The accidents occurred from 11:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. in Linfeng Township and Zhaxi Township, both in Weixin County, said an official with the city government of Zhaotong which administers the county.

Initial investigation showed that the first landslide killed four passers-by, while the second one killed three villagers, injured two, left 19 missing, and destroyed two single-story houses.

Rescuers have rushed to the accident site to search for the missing people.
