Giant wax gourd sells for record 5,000 yuan

A giant wax gourd was auctioned off for a record 5,000 yuan ($731) in Wenchang, Hainan province on Thursday.

The wax gourd, which weighs more than 47 kg, was purchased by a local company, which will use the green wax gourd as a specimen.

The gourd reaches 13 kg, which is heavier than the previous record in the southern province.

Ye Shiyan, who grew the gourd, was rewarded with a motorbike by the government.
