Passers-by got so angry at a man trying to sell an infant boy on the street that some spat on him while others cursed him for his shameless act.

The man stood on a sidewalk in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, with his sons on Wednesday morning and asked for 30,000 yuan ($4,386) in exchange for the month-old baby.

Onlookers initially thought the man was joking because he was also with his 5-year-old son and told some people the elder boy too was for sale at the same price.

Many women were furious at the man and called police. The man fled before police arrived.
