A 60-year-old farmer got a six-year prison sentence after he shot and killed his friend, surnamed Ma, during a hunting trip in Xiangtan county, Hunan province.

Both men were hunting when Liu Shiping fired at Ma thinking he was a wild boar in the mountain. It was about 10 pm at night when the accident occurred last November.

The Xiangtan County People's Court said Liu committed manslaughter and was in possession of illegal weapons. Liu has agreed to pay Ma's family 50,000 yuan ($7,320) in compensation.
