Antarctic expedition arrives in Taiwan's Kaohsiung

ABOARD XUELONG -- China's Antarctic exploration vessel, the Snow Dragon, arrived in Taiwan's Kaohsiung Port at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Snow Dragon, or Xuelong in Chinese, carrying 140 members of China's 25th Antarctic scientific expedition team, is expected to arrive in Shanghai on April 10.

The ship left Australia's Port of Fremantle on March 22 where it refueled. The ship arrived in Australia on March 20 on its way home after fighting terrible ocean surges in the Westerlies.

The team has fulfilled the task of erecting a new research station at Dome Argus (Dome A), the pole's highest icecap at 4,093 meters above the sea level. It left China's Zhongshan Station for home on March 9.
