BEIJING - Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong met here with the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge Alison Rechard on Wednesday, calling for expanded educational exchanges with the university.

Liu spoke highly of the contributions made by the University of Cambridge in promoting mutual understanding between the Chinese and British people.

She also showed support to the cooperative projects between China's relevant departments and the Cambridge University, such as Olympic Champion Scholarship Project and the establishment of Confucius Schools in Britain.

"I hope the University of Cambridge will continue to broaden exchanges with China's educational circles as well as promoting communications and friendship between the youth of the two countries," said Liu.

The two sides also exchanged views on further enhancing Sino-British educational communication and cooperation.
