XINING -- Rescuers have recovered the bodies of five construction workers from the debris of a collapsed wall in Xining, the capital of northwest China's Qinghai Province.

More than 100 rescuers were still searching for the other three workers who were believed to be buried under rubbles, an unnamed police officer said at the site.

A section of a cement wall, which was set up to circle a construction site on a commercial street, collapsed at about 1:35 pm Thursday, burying eight workers.

Residents in two adjacent buildings had been evacuated.

The collapsed section was about 20 meters long and 10 meters tall.
