BEIJING -- Premier of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Yong-il kicked off a five-day official goodwill visit to China Tuesday as the two sides celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
Kim arrived in Beijing Tuesday morning on his first visit to China since he assumed office in April 2007. The last time a DPRK premier visited China was in January 2006 when Pak Pong-ju accompanied DPRK leader Kim Jong-il on a trip to the country.
China and DPRK have designated this year as a "year of friendship" and are planning a series of exchanges to mark the diplomatic relations.
During his visit, Kim will hold talks with Chinese leaders and attend a ceremony marking the China-DPRK Friendship Year in 2009.
He is also scheduled to visit China's Shandong Province, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry.
