Factory explosion kills 4, injures 2 in north China

HOHHOT  -- Four people were killed and two were injured after a factory explosion in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Thursday afternoon, local authorities said.

The accident happened about 3:30 p.m. when six workers were carrying out welding operation at a factory of Northwest Chuangye Construction Company, owned by a major steel maker Baogang Group, said Ning Huidong, a Baogang official.

Three workers died at the scene. One died on the way to the hospital. One suffered rib fracture and one was slightly injured, he said.

The explosion was from a toolbox of the factory building, he said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
