11 brides run away from home with cash

Recently married brides of 11 farmers in several villages in Hanzhong, Shaanxi province, suddenly disappeared with more than 400,000 yuan ($58,400) of marriage gifts.

On Monday, a farmer surnamed Zhou in Xin'an village, saw that his new bride left him without a word.

Meanwhile, two other brides in the same village also disappeared on the same day. Zhou said the girls, from Sichuan province, were all introduced by the grooms' relatives and each of the grooms paid 30,000 to 40,000 yuan as a betrothal price.

According to police, they had similar reports from 11 farmers in the city and they were investigating.
