A mother who killed her son and then went into hiding for 15 years was sentenced to life in jail on Monday by a court in Chongqing municipality.

Zhou Guangxiu, a farmer in Tongliang, felt depressed after a row with her mother-in-law on August 25, 1993, and decided to kill herself and her 3-year-old son. That night, she put the child in bed and set her home on fire. But, unable to stand the pain, she ran away while her son was killed. She then fled and local police put her in the online 'most wanted' list.

She was arrested after returning to her hometown in August 2007 for a new ID card.
