BEIJING -- British-based engine maker Rolls Royce and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) will work together to improve an insulating material used in aircraft turbine engines, under a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by the two sides.

The MOU was signed during Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to Britain.

Rolls Royce and the CAS Institute of Metal Research, based in Shenyang, will cooperate in the area of forging titanium aluminide, an alloy that can withstand higher fuel combustion temperatures. The material will be used in the next generation of light, energy-saving engines.
