BEIJING  -- Chinese actors have been asked to abide by military standards for wearing uniforms when playing the parts of servicemen, according to a newly publicized regulation.

Actors must follow military rules on uniform and not damage the image of the army, the regulation states.

Jointly issued by the State Council and the Central Committee Military Commission of the Communist Party of China on Monday, it will take effect on March 1.

The regulation also bans actors from wearing military uniforms on occasions outside of performance.

The full regulation protects and guarantees the safety of military uniforms. It prohibits uniform manufacturers from leaking information about material technology, quantities produced and transported, and the identity of their receivers. Violators could face criminal charges of up to ten years.

And it also bans illegal production of military uniforms and material, buying and selling of uniforms, and producing and selling fake uniforms. Violators of these offences could face a maximum fine of 100,000 yuan (14,705 US dollars) or a prison sentence of up to three years.
