Games official now vice chairman of CPPCC BJ committee

BEIJING -- A senior official of the Beijing Olympics was elected as vice chairman of the Beijing municipal committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Thursday.

Wang Wei, 58, was elected at the plenary meeting of the second session of the 11th CPPCC Beijing Committee.

Born in Tianjin in October 1950, Wang holds a master's degree from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.

He served as executive vice president and secretary general of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) and vice chairman of the All-China Sports Federation.

Earlier in his career, Wang worked at the Capital Normal University, where he was deputy dean of the English Department and the International Cultural Exchange Department, deputy Party secretary and later vice principal of the university.

He was also deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Higher Education Bureau, general secretary of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission and associate secretary general of the Beijing Municipal Government.
