Growing stone takes the spotlight

An unusual stone that has apparently grown heavier in the past decade has recently attracted curious residents in Guangzhou, Guangdong province.

Guangzhou resident Liu claims that his black stone, handed down to him by his ancestors, is heavier by 340 g.

Liu approached media with his strange stone, seeking an explanation on its increased weight.

Zhang Ke, a professor with Sun Yat-sen University, said it was a piece of manganese dioxide and the weight increased because of a change in humidity levels.

Many curious friends, relatives and neighbors have been attracted to Liu's home by his stone.
