Webcast of insemination procedure fuels debate

A hospital sparked fierce controversy among locals by broadcasting live an artificial insemination surgery in Nanning, capital of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

The surgery was broadcast on a local website early this week and attracted many viewers.

Some residents say it helps popularize scientific knowledge and updates people' ideas of reproduction.

But others argue the hospital infringed on personal privacy.

The hospital said it had approval from the patient before broadcasting the surgery.
