Man stuck in dead space lights fire to get help

A man in Chongqing municipality trapped in a building's dead space for four days with nothing but cigarettes made a fire to attract attention.

Residents in a building in the city's Yuzhong district heard a voice crying for help for days but were unable to locate the person calling.

On Sunday, firefighters put out a fire burning in a closed channel on the second floor of the building and found a man asking for help. The man was sent to a local police station and told police he fell into the dead space but refused to say how.

Police identified Li as the suspect of a recent robbery and kept him for further investigation.
