Train workers help woman deliver baby

A woman gave birth on a train with the help of attendants between Yinchuan, capital of the Ningxia Hui autonomous region and Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province, last Wednesday night.

Tian Huizhen, a train worker who doubled temporarily as an obstetrician, said it was the first time she had ever been called on for such an important task during her 10-year career.

She and her colleagues soon made preparations when they learned the woman was in labor.

"Fortunately, the process was very smooth and the mother and the baby are all in good condition," Tian said.

According to the baby's father, Zhao, he and his wife are both migrant workers in Ningxia and the child was not due for another two weeks.
