Preparation for new NPC completed

The Standing Committee of the Tenth National People's Congress closed its thirty second session Thursday announcing that preparations for the next Congress have been completed.
 
Wu Bangguo, the chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, said the Tenth National People's Congress has successfully carried out its duty and explored a new era in the history of the Congress, based on the work of previous Congress.
 
Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, said, "The Congress has made significant contributions to the development of socialist democratic politics, the system of the National People's Congress, persevering with reform and opening up, scientific development, and maintaining social harmony."
 
Wu Bangguo said a legal system with socialist characteristics has been basically formed.
 
Over the past five years, the National People's Congress has debated a hundred and six draft laws, amendments and documents concerning legal amendments, and has passed a hundred of them.
 
Wu said the Congress's function of legal supervision has been noticeably enhanced, and the role of the deputies has been greatly improved.
 
Members of the Standing Committee voted to pass the draft amendment on the Water Pollution Treatment and Control Law.
 
The legislators confirmed the validity of all the 2,987 newly-elected deputies to the First Session of the 11th NPC.
 
The First Session's agenda and presidium were also confirmed.
 
Xu Zhaoqun, said, The close of the Standing Committee's session has put a full stop for the Tenth National People's Congress. The new Congress, scheduled to open in Beijing on Wednesday, will take over the job of constructing of a socialist democratic country under the rule of law.
