Man survives ride of his life on icy river run

A man fell into icy river waters but managed to survive after shooting some 2 km down river in Lanzhou, capital of Gansu province, last Monday.

That afternoon three migrant workers from Northeast China were enjoying themselves near the Yantan Bridge over the Yellow River when one toppled in.

Seeing him swept away on the frigid current, the other two men traced the river's edge in a taxi and called local police for help.

After 2 km the strong swimmer managed to struggle ashore where he promptly fainted from the shock the ordeal.

He later recovered in hospital.
