Lovesick fool seeks jail term to win girl back

Police officers didn't know whether to laugh or cry when a man claimed to be a fugitive in a bid to serve a three-year jail term in Maoming, Guangdong province, on Tuesday.

Officers from a police substation at the city's railway hub persuaded Huang, 26, to return home after learning the truth.

From the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Huang wanted to serve a jail term in order to win back his girlfriend.

He fell in love with the fellow villager while both were employed by a company in Shenzhen last year.

But when she wanted to break up, Huang refused and took literally her joke that she would marry him if he served three years on the inside.
