Towering tree closes up children's play holes
(China Daily)
Updated: 2008-12-15 09:50 An old tree whose trunk once had big holes in which children played has surprised locals and experts alike by closing them up naturally in Shanglin county, the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. The 274-year-old maple tree in Aichang village in the county's Baixu township stands 30 m high and has a girth of 470 centimeters. A 59-year-old villager surnamed Tan said he once climbed into the holes in the trunk to play hide-and-seek as a kid. But they have since closed up naturally. The local forestry department has listed the ancient tree under its protection. (Modern Life News) |
